IT WASN'T ALWAYS EASY
Back in 2010, I walked into San Francisco City Hall and applied for a business license under the name of Culinary Eye. The clerk asked me what Culinary Eye was going to be and I told her it was going to be a program based on connecting people to their community through food. She looked at me and smiled. 13 years later, that goal remains the same.
From 2006 to 2010 I had been working as an instructional chef across the Bay Area teaching guests to cook with ingredients fresh from the farmers market. I also spent time working in low income communities, womens recovery centers, and Kaiser Permanente hospitals throughout the Greater Bay Area teaching groups how to heal themselves and nurture their families through cooking at home. I taught interactive cooking classes for corporate retreats for 300 attendees at a time and watched how people would smile after seeing a dish or appetizer that they had created. I was even there behind the scenes teaching tips and techniques when Brian Boitano pitched his cooking show to the Food Network.
